The Sand-a poem

Reminiscing on the sands
About a life lived
About people met
About relations made
About bonds broken

It all started with a cry in the hospital
I opened my eyes to the world
A world that was to be my home
A world that was to be my hell

I suckled my mothers milk
I basked in her care
I held my dad’s finger
I laid my first steps in his

Reminiscing on the sands
I wrote my folk’s names
I looked at it with warmth
I watched it washed by the waves

I was a young kid
Too old to be lead
Too young to be tamed
I was a wild animal

I was in love and out
I was restless, I fought
I was wicked in thought
I made bad company

Reminiscing on the sands
I wrote my pals’ names
I looked at them and smiled
And I saw them washed by the waves

I was a married man
I was tamed by the weaker sex
I had a roof and walls
And a partner in my bed

Reminiscing on the sands
I scribbled my love’s name
I looked at it with tears
The sea then wiped it away

I had fathered my kids
I had given them my life
But now they have a living
And they have kids and wife

Reminiscing on the sands
I put their names on sand
I looked at them with fulfillment
I saw them cleaned again

Now there is none to remember
I have lost my thought and mind
I can’t think of but one name
I wrote it on the sand

I knew it would be the waves again
I waited to see them wash
They came they swept over it
But the name was there to stay

I smiled I looked at the name
I knew it was mine
I looked at the sea with wisdom
And walked the sands of time
