Cremation

He stood to watch the spectacle
Of light and darkness alike
Where darkness reigns supreme
Anointed by blazing light

His eyes wet with the mist
Of cold and hot at once
When cold was burnt in heat
And colder it became

His limbs left him
Passivity in action
When the passive was ablaze with vitality
The virulent was a stone

A moist in his throat
A lump of past and present
A dry mouth
A taste of future to come

Streaks across his face
Remnants of an emotion
An emotion that made his heart
Vestiges of damnation

A wind that ruffled his hair
A familiar sensation
A memory that was born
Born out of salvation

Time that stood again
To bow to his aching soul
A tear that was struck
Bereft of a companion

A limbo his being held in
Of death and life alike
When death was being burnt alive
And life was left to bide
