A few petals...

A few rose petals
Wet in holy water
Perfume an infant head
Name, an identity

A few rose petals
Fall from an unsure hand
Does or doesn’t
Life or eternity

A few rose petals
Adorn her feet
A lover’s envy
His pride and prize

A few rose petals
Scattered they lay
Abandoned estranged
Neglected in rejection

A few rose petals
At the altar
Of hope and the helpless
Of religion and belief

A few rose petals
Crumpled in with skin
When souls unite
A stage for the cosmic dance of creation

A few rose petals
Scattered
A few moments
Lived

A few emotions
Crushed
A few feelings
Triumphed

A few hearts
Broken
A few bonds
Formed

A few promises
Made
A few oaths
Taken

A few minutes
Of life
And then I unite in death
A few rose petals again
